The FSD Foundation is the responsible body for the central initial reception and clearing centres for unaccompanied minor refugees in Berlin. The accommodation of the children and young people is carried out on behalf of the Senate Administration on the legal basis of §42 SGB VIII.
After admission, the children and young people undergo a three-month clearing procedure. The main components of this procedure are the registration with the immigration authorities, health care, enabling access to education as well as clarification of personal care following the taking into custody. Pedagogical support is ensured throughout by interdisciplinary teams of specialists. Occupational activities offer orientation in everyday life, familiarisation with the new environment and, last but not least, distraction from homesickness. The clearing procedure ends with the transition to the responsibility of the district youth welfare office and the move into a suitable youth welfare facility.
The FSD Foundation is an active member of the Federal Association for Unaccompanied Minor Refugees.
